Well if you don’t know by now I’m a taxi driver by trade, that means I need my car every day for work. In London at the moment we have had a bit of a cold snap, it is literally freezing, I don’t know how much longer I can take it, I’m getting too old for the winter now. Anyway I digress, I had carried out my usual routine this particular day, shopping etc, I then came to my car at around 2 PM because I had to go and meet somebody out of town. I got in the car just as normal tried to start her up and she wouldn’t start, would you believe it. Anyway, I tried this for about 10/15 minutes, just revving and raving, with no joy. This to my mind was a catastrophe I really didn’t know what I was going to do without my car. So I phoned my boss told in the situation, and asked if I could get a advance on my wages. Guess what he said? Well you know what he said because I had to get a guaranteed payday loan in the end.

So I go online search for loans and come up with this thing called payday loans. Now I’ve heard of these loans but I carried on reading because I wanted to know what the terms were and basically what they were. Anyway I apply for one of these loans and would you believe it I got declined. So this left me a bit baffled because I’ve always had good credit, no defaults and pay my bills on time. I was really at a loose end as to why I would get declined for this payday loan. Worried about whether my credit rating was going to be affected if I applied with too many payday loan lenders sites I searched instead for guaranteed payday loans. This for other company that said they guaranteed acceptance of all payday loan applications. Great I thought and I applied, I got a loan of £200 until my next payday which was in about three weeks time.

So anyway I took it to the garage and this guy had a look at it, and apparently it was a radiator problem, I’m not a car guy so I took his word for it, he fixed it, I didn’t like the charge – it was around £300. But I knew it wasn’t going to be cheap so I budgeted for this with the loan.

Back on the road by the evening so everything turned out okay to get on with my job, this was the main thing. Now I just need to work my arse so off to get the money to cover me in case another emergency comes up, you know what they say bad luck comes in threes, so that leaves me two more to go.

New government – stricter on asylum

If Australians opt to change their government at this year’s general election, the so-called Pacific solution for asylum seekers arriving in Australia by boat will be back. Almost two-thirds of voters support the Coalition’s decision to re-introduce the Howard government’s “Pacific solution” for dealing with asylum seekers who arrive by boat. The Coalition would also re-introduce the controversial temporary protection Australian visas.

“A majority of Australians are likely to support policies presented as tough and uncompromising and are less likely to support policies perceived as soft.” claimed a leading Australian newspaper recently.

So far this year 133 boats have arrived in Australian waters and Labor MPs have for the past few months constantly be-moaned the fact that this is a constant concern among voters.

Australia student visas

Australia has received over 265,000 Australia student visa applications in the fiscal year to May 31, 2010. The figure represents a fall of over 17 per cent when compared to the record figures of 2008-09.

“While application numbers for student visas have fallen, it is important to note we are still receiving large numbers of applications. This decrease is reflected across most of Australia’s student visa markets, including our largest markets in India and China,” says a spokesperson for Australian immigration.

However, India has made an impassioned plea to Australia over fears that Indian students interested in studying in Australia will be hit hard by new Australian immigration rules.

A combination of factors such as stricter immigration norms, changing dynamics in the global job market and incidents of racism in some areas is reshaping the decisions taken by Indian students about the opportunities offered by education in Australia. Some are actually putting their overseas studies on hold for a year or two, despite having got their Australian visas stamped. Many of them it appears prefer to stay in India and work – at least for now.

Skilled migration sporadic

While Australia immigration on the whole appears to be convulsing on itself, like a vacuum that has eventually given way to the forces of science, certain areas such as skilled migrants in areas such as Durban in South Australia are actually increasing. Immigration within this area is up 18 per cent on the same time last year. This is NOT the norm seen across the country, however, and this is set to decrease more following the announcement by Australia immigration that the skilled occupations list will be shortened considerably from over 400 jobs to approximately 180 occupations.

Casualties of the new cull appear to be the softer occupations such as journalism and hairdressing. I can never find a good hairdresser, perhaps they’ve all been immigrating to Australia previously, well this is no-more.

Australian authorities seem to have taken a keen interest in migration over the past months or so; one might draw a relationship with the fact that a general election is fast approaching the notoriously anti-immigration nation.

This new get tough approach will surely appeal to voters, and could just see the current government cling-on in what is a decider of a topic to most voters.

We are now fully into the World cup, and while it appears that all the big guns are failing miserably, France are about to be knocked out by South Africa, Brazil aren’t really firing as they should and Spain have failed to become the nation to be reckoned with that many thought they would. So my thoughts immediately flipped to Canada and why they haven’t qualified for the world cup. It must be something to do with the weather, mustn’t it?

The point is that Canada is fast becoming the nation of immigrants, they simply can’t get enough, so before long this country will also become football crazy like every other nation that has had a large influx of migrants. Canada immigration have been letting in more than there fair share throught the last decade and this is set to continue regardless of whether the natural inhabitants start to have babies – Why don’t Canadians pro-create enough, it is bizarre.

With the rest of the world all going at it like there’s no tommorrow and countries such as Australia and the UK producing far and a way above the average amount of children, Canada it seems is not catching on and will not get the hint, they just don’t like children. This is in total contrast to China where there is a restriction on the amount of children you can have, maybe this is why the chinese are immigrating to Canada in such large numbers. I have actually heard stories of newly born girls being left in the street because the parents hearts are set on a boy and of course they are only allowed to have one child.

So while the world cup continues and my name is static, I cannot escape the thought that this world is a transient not so-bad place to be. Things are bad at points, but you must have a focus and a drive and above all a reason to get out of bed in the morning. My reason is work, and my plan is.. well not to be divulged just yet. What I will say is that I do have a plan, and I will acheive it.

Just like those imnmigrants that dream of moving to Canada, I have a dream and an ambition.
